The Bride’s Veil
Have you ever wondered where the tradition of a bride wearing a veil came from? Well, there are a few different ideas!
- First (and the more traditional) idea offered is it was considered bad luck for the groom to see his soon-to-be bride on their wedding day. Brides often covered, or veiled, their faces – especially in arranged marriages – to keep with this tradition.
- Second theory was to keep the bride safe from evil spirits!! Bridesmaids even wore the same or similar dress in an effort to confuse these spirits and keep the bride safe. Way to go, ladies!!
Often times, whatever the reason, these veils were of thick material and the bride could not see very well. So the tradition of the father of the bride escorting his daughter down the aisle was born!
Regardless of your choice to wear a veil or not, make sure your wedding photographer captures every detail of your veil from every angle – you won’t regret the time taken to create that memory.
